"In The Belly Of The Beast" is easily one of the best episodes of the season - and one of the best of the show when we deal with intense, serious cases like this. And Stana was PHENOMENAL. Even though the screener was a rough cut (with other people's voices instead of the actor's in some moments, which was a bit of turn off in a VERY emotional scene, that I'm sure that when it airs with the right voice, people will be crying and jumping off cliffs), it was easy to see that Stana was spot on the whole time. As usual, ABC requests certain plot point not to be revealed, so it won't ruin the surprise when people watch the episode. And believe me: you'll want the surprise.
Well, without further ado, let me tell you some minor things that won't really spoil the episode (even though I'm letting on more than I usually do), but it'll leave you all even more anxious for Monday to come.
- We se a little bit more of Casket doing wedding planning. This time, it was something minor: what font should they use on the "save the date"? But... I don't think neither of them were that interested in looking into fonts, and had better things in mind...
- That's when that sneak peek comes and ruins it all. Actually, that sneak kinda sums the first 5 minutes or so of the episode. They left out some info about the case, but nothing major or that interesting. Just debriefing Beckett (and the audience) as to what was going on with the drug cartel and Elena Markov.
- We have a brief call between Castle and Beckett before she goes undercover, just a "gotta go, see you latter" kinda of thing. Nothing big, but I do think people will get hung up on something that's said on that call... Haha
- That scenes we saw on the promos (Beckett being kidnapped and thrown in a truck) happen right at the beginning, right after the sneak peek ends. Meaning: we'll have PLENTY of screen time with Beckett undercover - and that's when your heart starts racing and you break out a cold sweat.
- Many people were dying to see Castle freaking out and worrying about Beckett. And he does worry, and we can see he's hate being so incapable of helping her. But don't go in expecting to see him like he was in "Target"/"Hunt", cause it's not even close. #bummed
- Also, you know that Russian accent we heard from Beckett on the promos? I think it was just our imagination...? Unless they change it later (like they do with those weird voices from other people), she was speaking English just normal. #bummed2 But we do get to see Stana showing off her language skills when she speaks (albeit briefly) in Russian.
- The big thing about Beckett being undercover is that she thinks she's supposed to be something, and the bad guys know her (or the woman she's impersonating) to be something else. So there're some... behaviour discrepancies as what they expect from Elena, which leave Beckett in some seriously tough spot.
- Let me just say that I watch the episode doing annotations on my phone, so I won't forget anything important. At certain point, when thing get really ugly for Beckett, she finds a way to leave... lets say, a goodbye to Castle. What I wrote was: "OMGGGGGG LETTEEER HELPPPPPPP I'M DEAD SOS YYYYYYYYYYYY (a pretty important detail about the scene, that you really don't want spoiled)". Anyway. Brace yourselves.
- Not much to say about what was going on with Beckett!Elena while she was undercover. But it was really interesting and intense, and I kept holding my breath while watching it.
- That thing they said in the synopsis, that Beckett would meet "a powerful enemy from her past" - everyone assumed it'd be a certain someone... IT'S NOT. I'll admit I did NOT see that one coming, and was really surprised with who we saw, and also though it was kinda amazing that they went there. But from them on, her cover was blown and that's when that awful water torture we see in the promo. And the scene lasts like, FOREVER. Idk, watching it, it felt like she was tortured for 10 minutes - but that's probably because I was also holding my breath the whole time. Seriously, it was agony to watch and I just wanted to hug my bb and never let go. =(
- The way she gets away (that's not ever a spoiler, cause c'mom, no one actually believe Beckett would die or even get shot in the middle of the season, right?) was at the same time surprising and kinda expected. But still, it was kinda interesting.
- Since I know you're gonna ask: yes, we did get a Caskett kiss after they were reunited. No, it wasn't THE kiss we were all hoping it would be. It was brief and badly lit. =/
- Just to reinforce this: ALL THE FUCKING AWARDS for Stana. She was outstanding throughout the whole episode!
That's it. Brace yourselves, cause I'm pretty sure some of you will lose it come Monday. For me, the episode was everything I hoped it'd be and more!
